Pay by mobile money
Most boarding houses in Lusaka are run from a notebook and the landlord's memory. Who has paid, who is two months behind, which bed is free next term, and whether that WhatsApp screenshot really was a mobile money payment — all of it lives in one person's head, and none of it survives a busy month.
HostelDesk puts the house on one screen. Every bed is on a map, arrears are worked out from the payment ledger rather than from recollection, and residents pay their rent by MTN, Airtel or Zamtel from their phone. Every payment issues a numbered receipt that cannot be edited or deleted, and guardians get a copy by email.
Reminders go out on their own three days before rent is due, on the day, and when it is late, so the landlord stops being the one who has to chase. Access is enforced in the database itself, not just in the interface, which is what lets a caretaker help run the house without seeing the money.
It sits behind a login and refuses to be framed, which is the right setting for a system holding residents' details and payments. What you see here are screenshots of the running pilot, with every resident's name and number changed.
